"I love how colourful it is": daughter of Uganda's Vice-President on the National Centre RUSSIA
On 30 October, Charlotte Epel Akol, daughter of Jessica Alupo, Vice-President of the Republic of Uganda, visited the National Centre RUSSIA. She arrived in Russia as part of her country's delegation to attend events held as part of the Third Russia–Africa Summit. At the National Centre RUSSIA, she explored the "Journey Across Russia" exposition, which showcases the natural, cultural, historical and technological wealth of all Russia's federal districts. She also visited the Department Store RUSSIA, where products from leading regional brands and unique examples of traditional folk arts and crafts are brought together.
According to Charlotte Epel Akol, the "Journey Across Russia" exposition made a strong impression on her. She said she was amazed by what she saw there, but St Petersburg — a city she had long dreamed of visiting but had not yet had the opportunity to see —had simply captivated her.
The guest was equally interested in the Department Store, the National Centre RUSSIA's flagship project, which showcases products made by Russian manufacturers from different regions of the country.
"I love how bright, colourful and beautiful this space is: from the crystal glasses and accessories to these wonderful traditional dolls, which embody the character of the people in the sense that nevalyashka (roly-poly) toys never fall over. It's all really wonderful," she said.
Last year, the National Centre RUSSIA was also visited by Charlotte Epel Akol's mother, Jessica Alupo, Vice-President of the Republic of Uganda. She likewise appreciated the "Journey Across Russia" exposition, praising its informative content and its harmonious combination of respect for the past, pride in the present and aspirations for the future.
Admission to the "Journey Across Russia" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA is free, with advance registration required. The exposition will be open to visitors daily from 10:00 to 20:00, except Mondays, starting on 3 November 2026.
One of the highlights for the Centre's international guests was taking part in the creation of the collective "Nevalyashki" ("Roly Poly Dolls") art installation.
The colour of the year will be a way to express Russia's diversity.
