Week of folk arts and crafts began at the Exposition

On June 18, a week of folk arts and crafts began at the International RUSSIA EXPO in the Department Store space of Pavilion No. 75. Exposition guests are invited to get acquainted with outstanding folk arts and crafts of the country and regional artisans.

The Fedoskino Factory presented the crafts of the Moscow region to the visitors of the event. Lacquer miniature and papier-mâché have been created in Fedoskino since the end of the XVIII century, it is one of the most recognizable crafts of the country. The masterclass on painting for guests of the Exposition was held by the main artist of the factory Elena Moiseeva.

"The Fedoskino Factory has existed since 1795. Fedoskino craft is a folk art craft. During today's masterclass our guests will paint postcards in the style of Fedoskino miniature", said Anastasia Kareeva, Head of Sales Department of Fedoskino Factory.

Within the framework of the first day of the week of folk arts and crafts, the Exposition also hosted a masterclass on traditional painting of the folk art craft "Semikarakorsk ceramics", which was conducted by Elena Grigonis. This folk craft originated in the Rostov region - in the town of Semikarakorsk.

"Today's event — painting on a plate — is devoted to acquaintance with Semikarakorsk ceramics. This craft comes from the Rostov region, it is relatively young, it is just over 50 years old. It is very relevant now, because in Russia the interest to folk crafts is growing. People are very interested in getting acquainted with and experiencing firsthand what we have through masterclasses," said Elena Grigonis, a master of Semikarakorsk ceramics.

The painting of Semikarakorsk ceramics is based on steppe plants of the Don region with small inflorescences, applied with fractional fine strokes.

"Our guests today perform a traditional pattern of Semikarakorsk craft — a steppe flower framed by leaves and buds. Through the tableware decorated with these patterns, the color and flavor of our native Russian land come into the house," added Elena Grigonis.

The International RUSSIA EXPO takes place on the territory of VDNH in Moscow from November 4 to July 8. Visitors are presented expositions of 89 Russian regions, leading federal departments, corporations and public organizations. More than 16 million people have already visited the Exposition.
