National Donor Day is celebrated annually on April 20. The reason for it was an important event: on this day in 1832, a young St. Petersburg obstetrician Andrei Martynovich Wolf for the first time successfully performed blood transfusion to a woman in labour. The woman's life was saved thanks to the competent work of the doctor and the donated blood of the patient's husband.
