The finals
of the Battle for Science 2023 Student Esports and Computer Sports Science

Players of
the Battle for Science-2023 International Student Esports Festival compete
face-to-face in the two most popular disciplines that are known worldwide -
DOTA 2 and World of Tanks. Six more disciplines had online finals - League of

thousand students from hundreds of Russian and foreign universities
participated in the qualifying tournaments. The winners of all eight directions
of the esports tournament will receive cash prizes or game currency.
The
international festival was organized with the support of the Ministry of
Science and Higher Education of Russia. In addition to the competitions, the
universities held thematic scientific conferences. Scientists, representatives
of the gaming industry, esportsmen and students from different countries
discussed the impact of the new sport on the development of dozens of research
areas. In total, about 500 thousand people took part in the events of the
festival.
According
to Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, more and more
people are coming to esport - in particular, compared to the last tournament,
the number of participants in the Battle for Science tripled.
"Esport
is starting to gain momentum, and is doing it very intensively - in particular,
Vladimir Putin emphasized that we need to be actively involved in this
direction," - Olga Petrova said during the opening ceremony.
Esports,
like traditional sports, requires great efforts from those who are engaged in
it to stay on top, said Sergey Karjakin, grandmaster and world chess champion.
He played an exhibition match with the tournament participants.
"Chess
and esport are certainly close in some ways - especially when it comes to games
with a strategic component. I believe that chess is close to esport, because
you have to spend a lot of time, train, otherwise you can't win," - said
Sergey Karjakin.
In addition
to games, the festival features zones of interactive dancing, retrogaming,
virtual reality, cosplay shows and much more.
