Countdown to the start of the World Draughts Championship to be launched at the RUSSIA EXPO
On June 26, at the International RUSSIA EXPO in Pavilion
C-2, a press conference will be held, and a countdown will begin for the World
Draughts Championship, which will take place from September 5 to 15 and will
include competitions in three disciplines: blitz, rapid and classical programs.
A rich program will be prepared for the guests of the
Exposition. They will be able to take part in a session of simultaneous play
with leading Russian athletes, who are on the list of participants for the
World Championship 2024, to visit a contest of problem solving and an open
dialog "Draughts — Reviving Russian Culture Together! Fundamentals of the
Game and Teaching Methods", as well as a press conference with the
athletes of the Russian national team: Yuri Korolev, two-time world champion,
four-time champion of Russia in Russian checkers, international grandmaster and
Kristina Vatolina, multiple champion of Russia and Master of Sport, as well as
President of the Russian Draughts Federation Anatoly Nikitin, Vice-President
Alexei Shonin. At the festival guests will receive exclusive limited edition
invitations to the World Championship.
The World Draughts Championship will bring together the best
athletes from five continents: Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America.
Representatives of more than 25 countries have already confirmed their
participation. They include: Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Romania, Norway,
Germany, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Georgia, Lithuania, Turkmenistan,
Tajikistan, Mongolia, Congo, Colombia, USA, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan,
Hungary, Bulgaria, Angola, Turkey, China.
"Russia has always shown decent results at
international competitions, bringing several prizes each time. I am sure that
this time on home soil the guys will demonstrate their professionalism, and we
will organize the reception of delegates in the best possible way and hold the
Championship at the highest level," said the President of the Russian
Draughts Federation Anatoly Nikitin.
The event will be held in "PSB Patriot" Cosmos
Hotels near Moscow. The prize fund will amount to 5,000,000 rubles (equivalent
to 55,000 US dollars). We invite everyone to support Russian athletes and join
