The Patriot 2023 National Prize which is awarded annually on a public and state initiative was presented at the International RUSSIA EXPO.

This year the heroes of our time were awarded in 12 nominations. The solemn ceremony of awarding statuettes of public recognition for the development of national consciousness, fostering a sense of pride in the historical and modern achievements of the country and its people was opened by the First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Executive Office of the Russian President Sergei Kiriyenko.

He conveyed the instructions of President Vladimir Putin to the participants: "I would like to emphasize that your educational, enlightening and truly heroic activities are in great demand today. I believe that at the forum you will be able to discuss current issues that are of public concern, exchange experiences and best practices, and initiate new meaningful projects and initiatives. I congratulate the laureates on their deserved success and wish you all the best!".

Sergei Kiriyenko noted that this year, for the first time, compatriots living abroad in more than 11 countries applied for the Patriot Prize. "I would like to say words of gratitude and respect to the compatriots who sent applications for the Patriot Prize for the first time from other countries, sometimes unfriendly countries. They find not only strength, but also courage to realize projects that glorify Russia and history in countries trying to sway hatred towards Russia and everything Russian", — said Sergei Kiriyenko.

He presented the first awards in the special nomination "Heroes Among Us": Alexander Stepanov, a war correspondent of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta editorial board; Zakhar Poloskov, a teacher of School No. 73 from Gorlovka and a military serviceman; Ivan Martynov, a medic and participant of the All-Russian service project "Your Hero" from Ramenskoye near Moscow; and Victoria Luzan, an 11-year-old schoolgirl volunteer from Krasnodar. All of them help the participants of the Special Military Operation, provide medical, informational and humanitarian support.

"My task as a war correspondent is first and foremost to tell people about ordinary fighters, to tell their difficult stories. I believe that these people can be called real heroes, real patriots. There are men who laid down their lives for our Fatherland, glory and praise to them, they are the pride of all Russia. Once again, I want to thank the organizers of the forum", — said correspondent Alexander Stepanov.

For their personal dignity and the best projects using modern digital technologies, the nominees of the Patriot 2023 National Prize were awarded by Vladimir Medinsky, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the All-Russian Public State Organization "Russian Military Historical Society". According to him, the award is held on the Heroes of the Fatherland Day for a reason: he recalled the history of the origin and awarding of the highest military award - the Order of St. George.
