The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates the Smolensk region on Region Day
On 27
September, the Smolensk region celebrates the 88th anniversary of its
incorporation into Russia. This ancient land, with a history spanning
millennia, continues to play an important role in the life of our country
today.
The modern
Smolensk region received its administrative status in 1937, yet the history of
these lands, where the Early Rus’ statehood was born, goes back many centuries.
"The
Smolensk region has an extraordinary history, where different epochs intertwine
— from ancient principalities to the heroic chapters of the Great Patriotic
War. Our nature, with its picturesque forests and rivers such as the Dnieper,
and our distinctive culture, expressed in folk crafts and festivals, draw great
attention. These aspects of our region — history, nature, culture — became the
basis of our stand at the International RUSSIA EXPO, which touched the hearts
of millions. But without doubt, our greatest treasure is our talented and
hardworking people, the driving force behind the development of the region and
the country," said the Governor of the Smolensk region, Vasily Anokhin.
The
Smolensk region is also represented at the large-scale exposition "Journey
Across Russia" at the National Centre RUSSIA, where hundreds of guests
learn about its history every day.
"Thanks
to the 'Journey Across Russia' exposition, more and more of our fellow citizens
and guests are discovering the Smolensk region. This recognition is
priceless," said Vasily Anokhin.
The
National Centre RUSSIA congratulates the residents of the Smolensk region on
this significant date and invites everyone to visit the "Journey Across Russia" exposition, where they can discover Russia’s regions, their
achievements and treasures.
