The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates the Tomsk region on the 81st anniversary of its founding
On 13 August, the Tomsk region celebrates a significant date — 81 years since its founding. This Siberian region, established in 1944 by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, today represents a unique blend of rich historical legacy, cutting-edge scientific achievements, and unparalleled natural landscapes.
Governor of the Tomsk region Vladimir Mazur emphasised the region’s role as one of the country’s most important educational and cultural centres. He noted that the region boasts a rich history, cultural traditions, and amazing nature.
"In our region, representatives of 136 nationalities live side by side, and Tomsk is rightly considered the student capital of Russia and one of the largest scientific centres in the country. Just imagine: more than 67,000 students are currently studying in the regional capital, and this number continues to grow each year. Tomsk universities offer more than 800 programmes for training specialists in the most in-demand sectors — medicine, IT, engineering, industry, and many others," Vladimir Mazur told the press office of the National Centre RUSSIA.
The region’s cultural heritage, which is carefully preserved and enhanced, deserves special attention. The Tomsk region is justly proud of its traditions of wooden architecture, recognised as a unique phenomenon nationwide.
"Every year, thousands of tourists come to admire the carved mansions and to see craftsmen create true masterpieces of wood at the international festival ‘Axe Fest’," the governor noted, stressing the importance of preserving folk crafts as part of Russia’s cultural legacy.
The Tomsk region is represented within the Siberian Federal District at the large-scale exposition "Journey Across Russia" at the National Centre RUSSIA. Visitors can explore the region’s natural wealth, including the famous Siberian taiga, as well as learn about the opportunities of the Sheregesh ski resort, whose lift is recreated in the exposition with maximum precision.
The exposition space is equipped with modern multimedia technologies: virtual reality systems, interactive screens with informative video content, and detailed infographics, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Siberian region.
Admission to the "Journey Across Russia" exposition is free for all visitors with prior registration. More detailed information about the exposition, including the schedule of guided tours, is available in the "Events" section on the official website of the National Centre RUSSIA.
