Delicate nature requiring careful treatment: Schoolchildren were told about the peculiarities of the Arctic at the RUSSIA EXPO
04.04.2024

Vasily Borisov, co-chairman and founder of the Whale Protection Foundation, spoke to schoolchildren about the rich but fragile nature of the Arctic at the Gazprom pavilion F.

"The topics of conservation and preservation of nature are extremely important to know from school. Russia is turning its face not only to Asia, but also to the Arctic. More and more people are now traveling to this region, exploring it. The Arctic is a very fragile place. Despite its apparent brutality, the nature there is very gentle," said Vasily Borisov, co-chairman and founder of the Whale Protection Foundation.

According to him, it is very important to realize that a piece of paper or wood left behind in almost all regions of Russia will turn to dust in a year, but in the Arctic, it is different: abandoned garbage remains there almost forever.

"Arctic flora and fauna require careful treatment. If you scare a whale away, it will simply stop feeding and swim away to another, calmer place. Destroyed reindeer moss on a piece of land will be lost forever and will not grow back. Our foundation is dedicated to saving cetaceans. The environmental situation is the most acute topic for whales, as they die precisely because of the deterioration of the ecology of seas and oceans," emphasized the founder of the Whale Protection Foundation.

The Foundation was established in early 2019 by uniting several environmental organizations. Its main campaigns were an expedition to the Barents Sea in the Teriberka area, as well as the release of killer whales and beluga whales from the "whale prison" near Vladivostok.
