The National Centre RUSSIA invites guests to discover a new trend in the interior — the enamelware. These are not just useful items for cooking and storing food, but also stylish details which can transform the kitchen space by adding comfort and individuality to it.

The history of enamel kitchen items production in Russia began in 1913 with the opening of the "Lysvensky Enamels factory" in the Perm Region. The company specialized in glass enamel coated products, and in the very year of its foundation, a workshop with three kilns started working there. The quality of the products was so high that it quickly gained the trust of customers.

In a period of time from the 1960s to the 1980s, enamelware had become an integral part of Soviet people's life. It was used everywhere: in urban apartments, in dachas, and in country homes. Not only pots and kettles were in use, but also bowls, basins, cans, mugs, and even chamber pots.

By the early 1980s, the production had reached an incredible scale: more than 280 enterprises made over 200 million enamel items per year. The range of products was amazing in its variety — from classic kitchen items to specialized utensils. All of them were manufactured according to strict GOST standards, which ensured a uniform quality throughout the country.

Revival of traditions

The enamelware does not just bring nostalgia, it is also a re-emerging tradition. Previously, the choice was limited to monochrome models or simple drawings like flowers, berries or small animals. Today, the new technologies allow manufacturers to make products with any prints, which will be liked even by people with the most contemporary taste.
