Presentation on the diversity of peonies was given at the RUSSIA EXPO
At the "Future in Flowers" festival, guests of the Exposition were introduced to new peony varieties and the specifics of their cultivation. Elena Larionova, a member of the "Moscow Florists" club and a collector, shared secrets about breeding varieties, as well as methods for caring for and fertilizing peonies.
"There are several thousand varieties and types of peonies. They come in a vast array of colors, with 27 shades in total. The peony's homeland is China. It is no wonder that in the watercolors of Chinese masters, peonies are frequently praised and depicted," said Elena Larionova.
The collector's love for this flower is a family tradition - she explained that her parents were passionate about peonies and created a unique collection, one of the best in the country, as recognized by many florists. Elena Larionova's mother was the chairperson of the peony section in the "Moscow Florists" club. Continuing this beautiful tradition is a great responsibility, the collector believes.
The club member shared several secrets for prolonging the lifespan of a peony bouquet in a vase. After purchasing the flowers, they should be trimmed, but it is better to split the ends of the stems. It is essential to use settled water and to change it regularly. Flower shops sell special inexpensive solutions designed to extend the fleeting beauty of bouquets.
Peonies are considered one of the oldest cultivated plants - they have been known to humans for more than two thousand years. Peonies got their name from the legendary physician Paean, who, according to legend, treated not only humans but also gods. Many peoples believed in the extraordinary healing abilities of these flowers.
