From ancient fortresses to modern achievements: the National Centre RUSSIA congratulates the Pskov region on its 81st anniversary
The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates the Pskov region on the 81st anniversary of its establishment. The significant date is marked on 23 August.
The Pskov region was established by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 23 August 1944 — a month after the complete liberation of the territory from Nazi invaders. Historically, Pskov was one of the first cities to be occupied and one of the last to be liberated by Soviet troops. The history of the Pskov land spans more than eleven centuries — the first chronicle reference to Pskov dates back to 903.
The Pskov region is part of the Northwestern federal district, which is widely represented at the exposition "Journey Across Russia" at the National Centre RUSSIA. In just one hour of a guided tour, visitors can learn about the region’s industrial achievements and natural riches.
"Since ancient times, our land has defended the western borders of Rus and has been a stronghold of the Orthodox faith. The old fortresses and ancient monasteries, where prayers have been heard for centuries, remind us of this. Here the foundations of statehood were laid, and here the continuity of the best military and spiritual traditions has been preserved. Today the region is actively developing: new tourist infrastructure facilities are appearing, industry and agriculture are growing, new investors are coming, attracted by convenient logistics and incentives. The Pskov land leaves no one indifferent. See for yourself at the exposition 'Journey Across Russia', and then be sure to visit us to experience it personally. After all, as we say, 'Russia begins here'," stressed Governor of the Pskov region Mikhail Vedernikov.
At the exposition "Journey Across Russia" the Northwestern federal district presents its key landmarks and economic potential. Guests will see natural and industrial sites, including the exposition of the Kola Peninsula with its mineral wealth, Arctic tourist routes, as well as the picturesque landscapes of Karelia.
A special place at the exposition "Journey Across Russia" is given to cultural heritage sites — from the architectural ensemble of the Kizhi Pogost to the renowned Mariinsky Theatre. Particular attention is paid to economic aspects. For example, the ports of the district (Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, St Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Ust-Luga) play a key role in Russia’s export and import operations, ensuring the transportation of oil, gas, coal and other strategic resources.
On 23 August the National Centre RUSSIA welcomed special guests — Alexander Nikitin from Samara and his mother Yulia.
