From payments to the palette: guests of the National Centre RUSSIA learned how to draw pictures with plastic cards

A creative master class for the whole family "Plastic cards: a new tool for drawing" was taught by the ION School of Design on June 24 in the art class of "the Birth of Scale" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA. The participants discovered an unusual creative tool in a plastic card.

"It's quite difficult to imagine that such cards were invented not only for paying in stores with them. The technique of drawing with plastic cards was worked out by our teacher of project-based art Olga Alexandrovna Velikorodnaya, and I think that it is hardly possible to find something like this in the free space of the Internet. We bravely approach materials and boldly experiment, learn to see and take the shape out from the plane by working with a plastic card, relatively speaking, like a spatula. This technique perfectly liberates imagination and develops creative thinking," said Anna Medleva, a host of the master class, senior lecturer at the ION School of Design of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, member of the Union of Architects of Russia, member of the Union of Designers of Russia, curator of international cultural projects, visionary.

While conducting the master class, the teacher was assisted by freshmen students of the "Honey Gingerbread" workshop, the ION school. Both young and adult guests of the NC RUSSIA practiced the non-standard use of plastic cards. 

"My son and I are regular visitors of concerts and other events at the National Centre RUSSIA, and this is not the first time we are participating in master classes at "the Birth of Scale" exposition. Today it was very unusual and informative, I liked it, and I recommend it to everyone," Polina from Moscow shared.

Little Yuri, who came to the master class with his Mum Polina, made with help of a plastic card a creative work in unusual purple tones.

"This color is simply my favorite, and the teacher suggested the stories of the paintings to us," the boy explained.

The architectural exposition "the Birth of Scale" at the National Centre RUSSIA reveals the greatness of Russia through its architectural heritage. The exposition includes both own exhibits of the NC RUSSIA, and pieces provided by museums and private collectors of the country. Among them are tools which were used by architects from different times, drawings and layouts, models of buildings both successfully erected and remaining as the innovative ideas. A separate section presents the future of the Russian architecture: children's creative studios, student workshops, and works by young architects.
