Singing as a way of unity: guests of the RUSSIA EXPO were taught Easter singing
Maria
Medvedchenkova, a teacher and co-founder of the Komon school, held a
masterclass on traditional singing at the "House of Culture" to
coincide with the Orthodox celebration of Easter. The guests of the Exposition
got assistance in mastering correct breathing, finding "their" voice
and harmony with the world around them.
The teacher
spoke about the special meaning of church Easter songs, noting their importance
and unity.
"When
the feast of the Bright Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ begins,
people rejoice on this day, sing songs in honor of this great event. They sing
All Hail King Jesus songs. These songs contain exactly this story. I believe
that it would be good for a person to initially join in singing together, to
bring back this somewhat lost tradition. I am convinced that this is a good way
to unite with each other!" said Maria Medvedchenkova.
She
expressed confidence that absolutely everyone can learn to sing after
overcoming shyness and insecurity, as "people sing with the voice they
speak with".
