"Commotion at the Puppet Theatre": original costumes by Liza Anisimova at the National Centre RUSSIA
A genuine
theatrical commotion has broken out at the National Centre RUSSIA — in the best
possible sense. The Department Store space is presenting "Commotion at the
Puppet Theatre", an original collection by Russian artist and designer Liza
Anisimova, inspired by the art of puppet theatre and its rich visual culture.
The exposition echoes the recently opened "Legacy. Theatre. The
Greats" exposition, marking the 150th anniversary of the Union of Theatre
Workers of Russia.
The collection comprises more than 25 original costumes, each created as a
unique piece. These are not simply clothes, but genuine works of art:
hand-painted fabrics, decorative finishes and complex original techniques
transform every piece into a distinctive image with its own character and mood.
Liza Anisimova drew inspiration from the aesthetics of puppet theatre — a vast world where the expressiveness of an image, attention to detail, movement and colour acquire a special, almost magical significance. This theatrical quality can be felt in every costume in the collection: the artist's works seem to have only just stepped off the stage, while remaining contemporary, vibrant and entirely unique.
Liza Anisimova is a prize-winner of the international Global Child Prodigy Award, which recognises the world's most talented children. Art experts have already praised the young prodigy's talent. Her works have been displayed at the State Hermitage Museum, the Pushkin State Museum, the State Academic Capella of Saint Petersburg, the Union of Artists and the Kaliningrad Museum of Fine Arts. Her creative projects have been presented on theatre stages, at fashion shows, auctions, festivals, expositions and art performances in Russia and abroad. Many of her works have entered private collections and museum holdings around the world, while well-known brands regularly invite Liza Anisimova to take part in projects in fashion, theatre and cinema.
This is not the first time Liza Anisimova's works have been presented at the National Centre RUSSIA. Visitors previously had an opportunity to encounter characters from her extensive "Fairy-Tale Legacy" collection. The opening of that exposition coincided with the launch of the "Book of Fairy Tales" exposition and became part of a dialogue on preserving and promoting the cultural and historical legacy of the peoples of our country.
Liza Anisimova's "Commotion at the Puppet Theatre" explores how stage images become independent works of art that continue to live beyond the theatre. The collection can be viewed in the foyer near the entrance to the Department Store.
