Writer Yevgeny Kharitonov emphasized the importance of the "Dreams of the Future" video essay contest for young people
A jury member of the "Dreams of the Future" video essay contest, writer and critic Yevgeny Kharitonov highlighted the project's relevance in a time of rapid global change and overwhelming information flow.
"Today, as the world is rapidly transforming and reshaping, as people are practically deafened by information noise and lose their bearings, it is crucial to develop tools that encourage pausing and reflecting on the future, that stimulate modeling this future and creating a scenario that is comfortable and optimal for the harmonious development of human civilization. That is why contests like the 'Dreams of the Future' video essay contest are more relevant and necessary than ever. Especially for young people," noted writer, critic, chairman of the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Writers' Union of Russia, and head of the Centre for Humanitarian Projects and Research at the Russian State Library for Young Adults (RGBM) Yevgeny Kharitonov.
He also spoke about a joint project between the Russian State Library for Young Adults and the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Writers' Union of Russia. This project is a list of recommended books where participants of the contest can find inspiration. The full list of books is available on the contest website: dream.russia.ru.
"Once, the great engineer Sergei Korolev admitted that he drew his engineering and design ideas from science fiction. That is why, to support young architects of the Future, my colleagues from the Russian State Library for Young Adults and the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Writers' Union of Russia and I have put together a foundational library of books. These books not only inspire creativity and the creation of future scenarios but are also incredibly engaging. Let's dream of the Future!" urged Yevgeny Kharitonov.
Team registration for the "Dreams of the Future" contest began on March 10. The main goal of the project is to spark young people's interest in the works of science fiction writers and to continue efforts to revive society's interest in future planning, a movement that began at the First International Symposium "Inventing the Future" at the National Centre RUSSIA.
Teams of five people aged 14 to 18 are invited to participate in the project. They must record a video essay about the future they would like to create.
The contest is held as part of the Decade of Science and Technology with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian Public-State Movement for Children and Youth "Movement of the First," the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education under the Presidential Council for Science and Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Library for Young Adults, and the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Writers' Union of Russia.
