"Feel the energy": Alley of Glory exposition dedicated to water sports opened at the exposition
A new,
fourth Alleys of Glory exposition has been opened at the RUSSIA EXPO. It is
dedicated to water sports and displays medals symbolizing the major victories
of our athletes in international competitions.
"Our
country has almost three million rivers and more than two million lakes,
including the deepest lake on our planet - Lake Baikal. How can we not engage
in water sports here? Our compatriots show great love for them, and this love
is reflected in a large collection of awards: more than 100 Olympic medals and
more than 200 medals of various world championships. Our athletes have forever
inscribed their names in the history of world sports, and what helped them to
do this was incredible diligence and perseverance - something that lies at the
core of the DNA of our people. The Alley of Glory gives an opportunity to feel
the energy of efforts and sacrifice of Russian champions, gives a huge charge,
an impulse to act, to try! Be inspired by the successes of our famous athletes
and confidently go forward, to new achievements," said Kirill Khvil,
Deputy Director General of the Russian Society "Knowledge".
Vladimir
Salnikov (swimming), Ekaterina Mikhailushkina (flipper swimming), Alexei Svirin
(rowing), Maxim Opalev (canoeing), Dmitry Sautin (diving), Maria Kiseleva
(synchronized swimming), Natalia Ishchenko (synchronized swimming), Svetlana
Romashina (synchronized swimming), Evgeny Rylov (swimming) - these athletes,
represented on the Alley of Glory, have forever inscribed their names in the
history of both domestic and world sports.
"The
National Anthem of our country was played at the opening ceremony, and it is
very significant for us, because each of the athletes present heard this anthem
while being on the highest step of the pedestal of honor and saw the world
before their eyes. Sport is a colossal labor and dedication, and no matter the
occupation, everyone still cheers for our athletes. Therefore, I am sure that
this exposition will attract great interest among the visitors of the
Exposition, which means that people will be engaged in sports, lead a healthy
and interesting lifestyle and will be confident in the new generation that will
make our lives better," said Vladimir Salnikov, 4-time Olympic champion,
multiple world and European champion and world record holder, President of the
All-Russian Swimming Federation.
The Alley
of Glory exposition consists of glass steles, inside of which the original gold
medals won by Russian athletes at the Olympics, world championships and
international competitions are placed. Each stele is named and dedicated to one
athlete. The exposition was created by the Russian Society
"Knowledge" with the support of the Ministry of Sports of Russia and
is located next to Pavilion No. 1 of VDNH.
