"Pomorsky Koch" may become the main achievement of the Arkhangelsk region
The project to preserve the traditions of wooden shipbuilding aims to become the leading project in the region. "Pomorsky Koch" has received the most votes on the portal "Achievements.RF".
On the threshold of the RUSSIA EXPO all regions of the country presented their most successful and significant projects. The Arkhangelsk region offered 18 nominees for voting. The first place is now taken by "Pomorsky Koch" — a project of the "Shipbuilding Cluster of the Arkhangelsk Region" Association and the Foundation for the Revival of Shipbuilding and Arctic Navigation. "Pomorsky Koch" has already raised almost 6.3 thousand votes.
In order to preserve the knowledge about Pomor shipbuilding, the project has been recreating a wooden koch at its shipyard located on Moseev Island in Arkhangelsk for the last few years. Koch is a small fishing flat-bottomed vessel capable of traveling quite far from the shore to the sea. For the inhabitants of Pomorye, the koch has become a symbol of courage and steadfastness of the pioneer northerners.
The craftsmen use archival notes of Pomors who in the XVI century conquered the White and Barents Seas on similar vessels. However, such a vessel can be used even today. The shipyard organizes excursions for all those interested in the history of shipbuilding.
In Russian folk culture, wreaths hold special meaning, which is why many people decorate their homes with them in the run-up to the New Year.
The final volunteer appreciation ceremony was held on 26 December at the National Centre RUSSIA.
A series of pre-New Year creative workshops continues at the National Centre RUSSIA.
