"Russia has more than just a language": Austrian teacher reflects on the "Journey Across Russia" exposition
The National Centre RUSSIA welcomed a delegation from the Austrian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature. During their visit, the guests explored the permanent exposition "Journey Across Russia", which offers visitors the opportunity to travel from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad in just one hour while discovering the nature, culture and achievements of all Russia's federal districts.
Sebastian Hacker, Chairman of the Austrian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature and a teacher of Russian at the Catholic Schottengymnasium of the Schotten Abbey in Vienna, shared his impressions of the visit. The tour was organised by the Russian-Austrian Sochi Dialogue Civil Society Forum.
"I was deeply impressed by the exposition because it presents such a rich diversity of Russia's culture, nature and history. I think everyone should visit it and see that Russia has more than just the Russian language — it is also home to many peoples, many cultures and an extraordinary wealth of cultural experiences," said Sebastian Hacker, Chairman of the Austrian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature and a teacher of Russian at the Catholic Schottengymnasium of the Schotten Abbey.
The section devoted to Russia's ancient history particularly captivated the Austrian guest. He also praised the advanced technologies showcased throughout the exposition. "What fascinated me most was learning about the Denisovans — an ancient branch of humanity whose level of development invites comparison with modern humans. I was also greatly impressed by the technologies presented here. I believe that Russia's work on the technologies of the future gives the country tremendous opportunities to share its knowledge and make a valuable contribution to the world," added Sebastian Hacker.
The Chairman of the Austrian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature has been visiting Russia annually for many years. Asked what he associates most strongly with the country, he replied: "When I think of Russia, I first think of its vast territory stretching across eleven time zones and of the hospitality I experience every time I come here. Austria is a small country — I think it could fit into your enormous country about eighty times over. Yet despite the difference in size, we always feel that people in Russia are happy to welcome us, show us their country and tell us about it."
The National Centre RUSSIA continues to welcome visitors from around the world, introducing them to the country's rich cultural legacy, history, achievements and remarkable diversity. The "Journey Across Russia" exposition is open year-round and available to all visitors.
