The most powerful hydroelectric power plant of the North-West was launched directly from the RUSSIA EXPO
Gazprom has
completed the modernization of the Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP, the most powerful
hydroelectric power plant in the North-West of Russia. The modernized hydro
unit was ceremonially launched during the Murmansk Region Day with the
participation of Governor Andrey Chibis and Gazprom Management Committee Chairman
Alexey Miller.
The head of
the Murmansk region noted the importance of the project. For the region today,
modernization and increase of power system capacities are more urgent than
ever.
"The
timing and technological solutions that were applied at the HPP - the most
powerful HPP in the North-West of Russia - are impressive. I would like to
particularly express my gratitude for the tight joint work within the framework
of fulfilling the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin on gasification of
the Murmansk region. This is another landmark project not only for our region,
but also for the entire Arctic", - said Governor Andrey Chibis.
Alexey
Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, congratulated the
employees and veterans of Russian electric power enterprises on their
professional holiday and specifically thanked the employees of Gazprom
Energoholding Group for their responsible and diligent work. He emphasized that
with the commissioning of hydropower unit No. 2 the company had completed a
major upgrade of the generating equipment of the Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP. As a
result of the modernization, the reliability of power supply has been
significantly improved and additional capacity has been created for the
development of the Murmansk region.
"We
have increased the capacity of the Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP - and thus the entire
Kola energy system - and improved the reliability and environmental safety of
the equipment. This allows us to ensure even more efficient power supply to
consumers, and the capacity reserve creates additional opportunities for the
development of North-West Russia", - Alexey Miller said.
Since 2018,
all four hydroelectric units of the plant have been completely renewed. The
installed electric capacity of the HPPs has been increased by a total of 32 MW
from 268 to 300 MW. Gazprom completely replaced the hydro generating and
electrical equipment. The latest automatic control systems were also
introduced. All equipment and systems are manufactured by Russian companies.
Denis
Fedorov, Director General of Gazprom Energoholding, addressed the participants
via videoconference from the engine room of the Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP in the
Murmansk region.
"The technically complex equipment modernization works were completed on time and without stopping the production process - all this time the station continued to supply consumers with electricity and perform the functions of power system regulation", - he said.
The best modern environmental safety technologies were used during the modernization of the plant. The Arctic region water basins will be preserved and any risks to the region's ecology will be minimized.
Quantum technologies are the key to digital sovereignty, security, and breakthrough discoveries. We are not copying anyone else's path — we are creating our own.
