Preparation of the bride and the fastest bread eating competition: Mari wedding traditions
The wedding
of the Mari peoples is quite a long event, which consists of three stages. But
the most vivid moments of the rituals were presented at the RUSSIA EXPO by the ensemble
"Morko kundem" from the Republic of Mari El.
In total,
there are three key stages in the Mari wedding cycle. The first lasts from the
viewing to the wedding ceremony, the second is the wedding itself, and the
third - the post-wedding stage - is the newlyweds' entry into family life.
At the
exposition, the artists showed how the bride is prepared. They put on the most
beautiful clothes and jewelry, sing folk songs, and perform traditional wedding
dances with stomping and shouting.
The
visitors also saw how the groom was welcomed to the bride's house with bread
and salt. There was also a mock competition between the bride and groom for the
fastest eating of bread. The roles of the bride and groom were performed by
folk dancers Andrei and Natalia Dmitrievs. In life, the artists are already a
married couple.
"I myself am from Voronezh. I met my future husband while working in Kazan, and then he brought me to the Republic of Mari El", - said Natalia Dmitrieva.
In total, more than 40 real weddings will be held at the International RUSSIA EXPO. Before that, employees of the Vostochny Cosmodrome (https://russia.ru/news/poznakomilis-na-kosmodrome-vostocnyi-a-nastoiashhuiu-amurskuiu-svadbu-sygrali-na-vystavke-rossiia), natives of the Republic of Tuva (https://russia.ru/news/obshhee-dyxanie-i-obriad-s-kosoi-tuvincy-sygrali-svadbu-na-vystavke-rossiia), Buryatia (https://russia.ru/news/iarkii-obriad-buriatskoi-svadby-na-vystavke-rossiia) and other regions got married here.
