Watch the parable "Khorovod" on the Kultura TV channel
One of the most significant cultural projects timed to coincide with the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia can be watched from home. On 10 May, the Rossiya-Kultura TV channel will broadcast the musical and choreographic parable "Khorovod", created at the National Centre RUSSIA. The television version will air at 12:45.
The screen version will allow viewers not only to see the project from the best angle, but also to notice details that are not usually visible to every member of the audience in the hall: from the meticulous work of the costume designers to close-ups of the performers’ facial expressions. In addition, the creators of the television programme sought to preserve the atmosphere of unity between the audience and the performers, so that even viewers watching from home can feel part of one great khorovod.
The premiere of the musical and choreographic parable "Khorovod" was held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 28 April. Its main idea is that dance can unite people just as music and words do, revealing the richness of different peoples’ cultures without translation — through emotion and feeling. In a country where hundreds of languages are spoken, dance remains a universal language that brings everyone together.
The parable "Khorovod" is divided into five thematic sections: "Russian Folk Dance", "Dances of the Peoples of Russia" (North, West, South, East and historical territories), "Nature of Russia", "Youth and the Future" and "Pereplyas". Each section reveals a distinct layer of the country’s cultural identity, bringing together tradition and modernity.
The project featured ensembles from different regions. They included Ergyron from Chukotka, Baikal from Buryatia, Kantele from Karelia, Donbass, the School-Studio of the Igor Moiseyev Folk Dance Ensemble and others. Ethnic ensembles, contemporary choreography, throat singing and other elements of the production are also harmoniously combined with a symphony orchestra.
Key episodes of "Khorovod" include the number "I Dance the Music", in which invited Bolshoi Theatre soloist Ildar Gainutdinov performed together with ethno-music star Olena Uutai. One of the most complex numbers, requiring the highest level of skill, was the "Dance with Daggers" performed by the Alan State Academic Ensemble from North Ossetia. The culmination of the programme was the original "Pereplyas". The dynamic finale brought together the project participants and the audience in one great khorovod and created a single space of interaction, which also involved the foreign guests of the premiere — experts and essayists of the II Open Dialogue "The Future of the World. A New Platform for Global Growth".
The musical and choreographic parable "Khorovod" is an original project of the National Centre RUSSIA, implemented with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. It is dedicated to one of the country’s most important cultural symbols. Around 300 artists took part in the multi-genre production. In addition to the Kultura TV channel broadcast, the full recording of the premiere can be watched on russia.ru in the "Livestreams and Videos" section.
