Create conditions for living and working: Arctic development was discussed at the RUSSIA EXPO
The working group of the State Council on the development of the Arctic, created by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, held a meeting at the RUSSIA EXPO. The participants of the discussion proposed to prioritize the Arctic in the presidential national projects by analogy with the Far East, to single out the Arctic zone into a separate national project.
According to Alexei Chekunkov, Head of the Russian Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, during the first three years of implementation of the Basics of State Policy in the Arctic and the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, considerable results have been accumulated. But during this time the world has changed.
"Based on the results of today's discussion, we will draft proposals for new measures to develop the economy, social sphere, and strengthen national security in the Arctic, with a focus on technological and social development. On creating living and working conditions in the Arctic that would allow to realize ambitious projects," Alexei Chekunkov noted.
Sectoral problems were also discussed. In particular, the current administrative barriers in the form of excessive sanitary norms, affecting the interests of Arctic fishermen and consumers of fish products.
"We agreed that within the framework of our expert group and together with the relevant agencies - Rosrybolovstvo and Rospotrebnadzor - we will try to find a reasonable compromise to remove excessive barriers and restrictions that currently prevent us from increasing the supply of fish products harvested in the northern basin to the Russian market," said Andrei Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk region.
