Old handmade art: as part of the patchwork exposition, a workshop was held in the National Centre RUSSIA
On July 17, as part of the patchwork expo named "The Soul of Russia", a workshop was held at the National Centre RUSSIA. There, visitors learned old techniques of decorative and applied art.
The quilting exposition "Soul of Russia" will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA until July 27. The exposition consists of products made by modern craftsmen from different regions of our country. To make them, the masters used century-old techniques.
A practical lesson for quilting enthusiasts was conducted by Lada Khristenko, producer of the Patchwork Academy.
"Today, the participants learned how to make traditional blocks — pieces sewn from different elements. To begin with, we considered the simplest of them: "a well", "a cone", "a pineapple". In all of them, the same steps are made: we take a square piece of fabric and sew it around with strips of fabric. In previous times, women used to make different patterns from scraps and remnants of material," explained Lada Khristenko.
The craftswoman noted that during the Soviet Union times, patchwork was temporarily unclaimed, but in the 1990s it regained popularity.
Each canvas presented at the exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA combines multicolored patches and a variety of fabrics. Due to the different texture and color, the products acquire a deep meaning, given to them by the craftsmen.
"We are very lucky that the National Centre RUSSIA hosted our exposition and our festival. It has been organized annually since 2015, and it is more than 10 years old. We have more than two thousand participants from different cities of the country. We have brought together the most talented craftsmen from Ufa, Arkhangelsk, Voronezh, Tula, Moscow, Perm, Ivanovo, St. Petersburg, Tyumen, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Lipetsk, Cheboksary, Bryansk," said Rimma Bybina, organizer of the "Soul of Russia" International Patchwork Festival.
She noted that "the Soul of Russia" International Patchwork Festival is aimed at preserving the spiritual and moral values of the people.
The next workshops using this technique of decorative and applied arts will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA on July 20 and 24. More information about the patchwork exposition "Soul of Russia" can be found on the website of the National Centre RUSSIA in the "Events" section.
The dialogue set the tone for discussion of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, and was devoted to the study of key climate changes.
At the event, the speakers will talk about the nominations, prizes and stages of the competition.
On July 24, the Seventh Eurasian Aerospace Congress will open at the National Centre RUSSIA.
