Strugatsky: 100 Years into the Future — literary evening at the National Centre RUSSIA
On August
28, the National Centre RUSSIA invites you to an event of the literary club
"What to read?!" dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Arkady
Strugatsky. The evening will be hosted by Alexey Chesnakov, Head of the
Scientific Council of the Centre for Political Analysis, Professor at HSE
University, and author of the Telegram channel "Chesnakov.Library".
The expert will help guests to take a fresh look at the legacy of the legendary
science fiction writer.
Arkady
Strugatsky, born on August 28, 1925, together with his brother Boris, created a
huge world in the universe of science fiction. Their books have become
philosophical manifestos which keep inspiring new generations of readers. At
the evening, the guests will talk about Strugatsky's most significant works,
discuss their relevance in the modern world, and try to look into the future
through the prism of their ideas.
"Many
of us love science fiction. And very soon, a literary club meeting dedicated to
the 100th anniversary of Arkady Strugatsky's birth will be held at the National
Centre RUSSIA. We will discuss the Strugatskys' work, their importance, new
books related to science fiction, and the popularity of various kinds of dreams
that modern society lives by. We'll discuss how science fiction affects the
development of society, and talk about the future," said Alexey Chesnakov.
The
programme of the evening includes:
— analysis
of the Strugatsky's key works and their significance for the world literature;
— a
discussion about the impact of science fiction on the development of technology
and society;
— an
overview of new publications and research on the work of writers;
— a
conversation about what predictions made by the authors came true, and which
remained utopias.
This event
is a unique opportunity for all fans of high-quality sci-fiction to meet
like-minded people, gain a deeper understanding of the great writers’ work,
and, perhaps, take a fresh look at our common future.
