"Theater at the Cinema": the film version of "The Nutcracker" was shown in the "Our Culture" pavilion at the RUSSIA EXPO on World Ballet Day
February 7 is Ballet Day, an international holiday dedicated to the most elegant form of stage and choreographic art. As part of the "Theatre at the Cinema" program, a screening of the film version of the ballet "The Nutcracker" in choreographer Vasily Vainonen's version and original multimedia sets took place in the "Big Cinema" cinema hall of the "Our Culture" pavilion. The leading roles were performed by dancers of the legendary Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.
"The Nutcracker" is a touching story about love, devotion, courage and nobility.
In this "Nutcracker", the twists and turns of the plot are represented by the dances, and its choreographic diversity has been the key to its long stage life. Vainonen's production has not left the stage for more than eighty years. Today it is performed both by dancers of the Mariinsky Theatre and students of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.
The A.Y. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet is the legendary oldest ballet school in Russia, the first in our country and one of the best in the world. The Academy has made an invaluable contribution to world choreographic education, managed to preserve and develop the traditions accumulated by many generations of Russian dancers and teachers, and won the recognition of millions of ballet fans. Her pupils dance on the renowned stage of the Mariinsky Theatre and on leading stages around the world.
We would like to remind you that earlier in the "Big Cinema" hall of the "Our Culture" pavilion the audience watched a film version of the opera "Queen of Spades" performed by the Helikon Opera Theater. In the near future, the cinema hall is planning to show other film versions of performances by Russian theaters.
