On the final day of Maslenitsa Week, guests of the RUSSIA EXPO witnessed one of the "tastiest" holiday competitions — a street pancake tournament "Maslenitsa-2024".

Cooking skills were demonstrated by chefs of the federal project "Gastronomic Map of Russia" — participants of the Festival "Russia to Taste" of the World Youth Festival. The program was coordinated by the author of the project "Gastronomic Map of Russia", curator of the House of Russian Cuisine Ekaterina Shapovalova. The event was attended by the Director General of the Autonomous noncommercial organization «Directorate of the Exhibition of Achievements "Russia"» Natalia Virtuozova.

"Today is such a bright, everyone's favorite, our native holiday — Maslenitsa. Pancake is the embodiment of the sun, creation, unity. The best cooks from all over the country took part in baking pancakes at the RUSSIA EXPO. There were an incredible number of recipes: from the Far East to Kaliningrad. We thank each chef for sharing their secrets with us. And now we, from all corners of our Motherland, gathered here all together to taste our famous pancakes," said Natalia Virtuozova, Director General of the Autonomous noncommercial organization «Directorate of the Exhibition of Achievements "Russia"».

More than a thousand guests of the festive celebration were able to taste the best variations of the cult dish of Russia — Ryazan karavaytsy with sea buckthorn condensed milk and lingonberry brew, Arina Rodionovna's pink pancakes with cloudberry jam, pancakes with Altai marble beef and sour cream, Arctic pancakes with cloudberries, tabani with zyret and honey, pachat with Siberian pears, Don pancakes with cottage cheese and raisins, grandmother's pancakes with sour cream and red salmon caviar, hingalsh with pumpkin.

Guests could vote for their favorite dish of regional teams. According to the results of the voting, the "people's jury" chose a pancake with sour cream and caviar of red salmon from Svetlana Bokova.

Regional teams of chefs were represented by nine subjects of the Russian Federation — the Murmansk, Ryazan and Rostov regions, the Republics of Karelia and Sakha (Yakutia), Kamchatka region, Udmurt Republic, Altai region, and the Chechen Republic.

"From the Far East to the Arctic, festive Maslenitsa celebrations continue to delight our people. Today here, at a single site, we have managed to demonstrate only a small part of the "pancake" traditions of our vast country. This is another opportunity for us to unite and represent the whole of Russia in the format of "one dish". We have a multinational team, and we do not separate which nation this or that recipe belongs to, we are all witnesses of the birth of a great national culinary trend — Russian cuisine," Ekaterina Shapovalova said.

The festival "Russia to Taste" demonstrated gastronomic diversity and food achievements of 89 regions of our country — from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad. It was held with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives within the framework of the project "Gastronomic Map of Russia", implemented jointly with the art cluster "Tavrida" (Rosmolodezh project).
