A unique self-supporting roof to cover the National Centre RUSSIA
The new building of the National Centre RUSSIA, the
construction of which was officially launched by the President of Russia,
Vladimir Putin, will feature a unique self-supporting roof. Details were shared
by Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning Policy and
Construction, in an interview with the RIA Real Estate agency.
"The structural solution is designed as a shell
framework. It will use a double-layer self-supporting grid structure resting on
the building's columns <...> The complex-shaped roof will span an area of
several hectares with a minimal number of internal supports, ensuring an open
space for expositions and visitors. This lightweight yet durable structure,
consisting of spans up to 120 metres high, will rest on columns, creating the
impression of weightlessness, of a vast, airy canopy that unifies different functions
and brings the entire space of the national centre together," said
Vladimir Yefimov, adding that this approach eliminates the need for traditional
steel trusses and purlins.
To bring this architectural concept to life, according to
the Deputy Mayor of Moscow, special ultra-strong lightweight materials will be
used during construction, including high-grade steel, spatial trusses, and
composite panels. Designers will rely on engineering models typically used in
the construction of stadiums and airports.
In addition, a smart tower crane with remote control is
planned for use in high-altitude construction works. This piece of equipment is
expected to accelerate such operations by 10 percent and reduce the number of
potentially hazardous situations by up to 70 percent.
The event included a presentation of the original futurological novel "Alternative".
Employees and volunteers of the National Centre RUSSIA joined the official launch ceremony of the nationwide campaign "Memory Wall", which was held at the National Centre RUSSIA this year.
