04.11.2024

Today, November 4, the International Symposium "Inventing the Future" begins in Moscow. Its participants include scientists, researchers, futurists, science fiction writers, and government representatives from 101 countries.

The symposium is the first event at the National Centre RUSSIA, which was established by the order of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to preserve the legacy of the RUSSIA EXPO and to demonstrate the country’s achievements on a permanent basis.

The three-day program includes over 60 events across four themes: the future of human, the future of technology, the future of a multipolar world, the future of civilizations.

The "Future of Human" track is dedicated to possible changes in social life under the development of biological and digital technologies, as well as the creation of new trends in culture and urbanism.

Within the "Future of Technology" track, participants will discuss breakthrough innovations that could change the world and society, as well as the consequences of further progress in modern technological solutions.

The "Future of a Multipolar World" track covers the development of states, relations between countries, and international organizations. Experts will provide forecasts on the transformation of social processes within this block.

The "Future of Civilizations" track is focused on analyzing scenarios for humanity's development and addressing global ethical and philosophical questions.

As part of the symposium, the exposition "Legacy for the Future" will be opened — it is a large-scale project supporting the idea of dialogue about the future of the world, with a focus on a human. The exposition is divided into three sections.

The first section demonstrates the continuity of innovative traditions: from the ideas of visionaries and science fiction writers worldwide to the achievements of inventors.

The second section features over 250 works by young artists from Russia, Brazil, India, Iran, China, and Ethiopia. In their art, young authors expressed their personal responses to contemporary challenges. The curator of the exposition is Semyon Mikhailovsky, rector of the Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. The centerpiece is "Son of the Earth" — a scaled-down replica of a sculpture by one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Chinese art, Dong Shubing.

The third section of the exposition transports viewers into a unique art object which at the same time serves as a lecture hall — a space where everyone can become a creator of our shared future and propose new ideas for improving the world.

The exposition will be open to Symposium participants from November 4 to 6, and starting November 7, it will be available to the general public. Like all events at the National Centre RUSSIA, the visit will be free of charge.

"We are pleased to welcome guests to the first event at the National Centre RUSSIA — the Symposium that allows us not only to discuss but also to start co-designing the future. Speakers and delegates from 101 countries will participate. I hope that the universal platform we have lovingly created for effective dialogue among representatives of different nationalities, traditions, and cultures will help make our common future bright, comfortable, and happy," emphasized Tatiana Kareva, Head of the International Cooperation Department at the National Centre RUSSIA.

The Symposium will bring together over 3,000 participants from Russia, India, Italy, Iran, China, the UAE, Serbia, the USA, France, and other countries.

Many foreign participants of the Symposium have already had the chance to get to know Russia, and each has enthusiastically noted the special heart warmth and hospitality of the local residents, as well as a sense of unity with them.

"We are taught to fear and avoid places like Russia, but here I am welcomed with open arms. I feel at home here. This is a truly special place, very warm and welcoming. I feel part of this community," said John Molera, Director of Policy and Research at DD Geopolitics (USA).

The Symposium program is published on the website future.russia.ru. Broadcasts of the events will also be available there during the days of the Symposium.

The order to establish the National Centre RUSSIA was signed by President Vladimir Putin on July 1, 2024. The Centre is created to preserve the legacy of the RUSSIA EXPO and showcase the country's achievements on a permanent basis.
