Nenets Autonomous Area Days to be held at the National Centre RUSSIA
From 14 to 19 October, the National Centre RUSSIA will host a thematic week dedicated to the Nenets Autonomous Area. Visitors will explore the region’s history, traditions, achievements, culture, and development plans. This presentation will conclude the series of the first seven regional showcases featured in the exposition "Region-2030. Platform of the Future".
A meeting with the Governor of the Nenets Autonomous Area, Irina Gekht, will take place on 15 October as part of the project "Platform of the Future: Region-2030. 100 Steps". The discussion will focus on socio-economic cooperation with subsoil user companies, maintaining a balance between resource exploration and environment of the region, and the region’s agricultural industry, which ensures its food security. The central topic of the meeting will be improving the quality of life for northern residents — Irina Gekht will present specific initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare, education, transport accessibility, and infrastructure development.
Participants will also learn what the Nenets Autonomous Area will look like by its centenary, which will be celebrated in 2029.
At 12:30, the cultural programme highlighting the identity of the Nenets Autonomous Area will be presented by the ethnic band "Khaerako’ sei", which translates from the Nenets language as "Sunny Heart". The musicians promote Nenets songs and folklore in a contemporary style, ensuring that the songs live not only within them but also in the hearts of younger generations. The programme is designed to let the audience fully experience the Nenets cultural colour: the beat of the shaman’s drum, the cries of seagulls, and the mesmerising throat singing will transport listeners straight to the tundra — to the shores of the Barents Sea.
At 13:00, Artur Orlov, Hero of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the "Movement of the First", will meet with activists of the children’s and youth movements of the Nenets Autonomous Area. The participants will ask questions, outline plans for new projects, and gain motivation for further achievements.
At 14:00, during culinary workshops and tastings, guests will dive into the authentic cuisine of the indigenous peoples of the North. Tatyana Bobretsova, chef of the restaurant "Frigate in Pustozersk", will introduce visitors to the gastronomic traditions shaped for centuries in harmony with the harsh Arctic nature. Using local ingredients supplied by OAO Myasokombinat, OOO ERV, Argus, Peasant Farm Semiashkin M.P., and Dary Arktiki, she will reveal the "three pillars" of northern cuisine — simplicity, naturalness, and respect for the gifts of the tundra. The session will be moderated by Yekaterina Shapovalova, author of the National Centre RUSSIA’s "Gastronomic Rows" programme.
At 16:30, there will be a meeting with the Interregional Public Organisation "Association of the Nenets Autonomous Area" in Moscow. Over tea, participants will discuss interregional cooperation.
On 18 October at 12:00, the region’s thematic week will feature the educational programme "Encyclopaedia of the Arctic: One-Day Intensive on the Nenets Autonomous Area" — a deep dive into the region’s unique environment through the lens of tourism, economy, culture, and expert experience. The lecture will help a wide audience learn about the opportunities, features, and prospects of travelling in the Arctic, forming a holistic understanding of the Nenets Autonomous Area’s potential in tourism, economy, and culture, and inspiring personal discovery of this Arctic region. The programme includes presentations of the region’s economic and tourism potential, introductions to unique routes and landmarks, discussions on traditions, fashion, and other cultural aspects, as well as practical travel information and direct interaction with regional experts. The event will conclude with a prize draw for a trip to Shoyna, an authentic polar settlement near the border zone.
The regional weeks are held as part of the exposition "Region-2030. Platform of the Future" at the National Centre RUSSIA from September to October. Visitors have already explored the Republic of Dagestan, the Voronezh, Tula, Amur, and Chelyabinsk regions, as well as the Jewish Autonomous Region. The Nenets Autonomous Area concludes this series of regional presentations.
It is the world’s largest educational science project and one of the key events of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia.
