Vasily Orlov presented the Amur region's key vectors of development at the National Centre RUSSIA
Governor of the Amur region Vasily Orlov presented the integrated development of the region at the National Centre RUSSIA in the course of the project "Platform of the Future: Region-2030. 100 Steps". The meeting with the Governor at the National Centre RUSSIA opened the Days of the Amur Region, which are running from 23 to 28 September.
Vasily Orlov noted that a development strategy until the year 2035 was approved in the region, and while making a presentation, he highlighted three key vectors of development: space, gas-to-chemicals, and integrated cooperation with China.
The Vostochny cosmodrome serves as a foundation for development of the space industry in the region. The modern cosmodrome helps to attract highly qualified professionals from all over the country, and opens up prospects for the Amur youth.
"The Vostochny, like any large-scale project, produces a multiplying effect. And the city of Tsiolkovsky, where the cosmodrome workers and their families live, gets most of the advantages from it. The city has also been developing, housing and social facilities are being built there, and new public spaces are emerging. On behalf of the President of Russia, a master plan has been developed for the city agglomeration, which includes Tsiolkovsky and the neighboring city of Svobodny. The decision to make them one city is important because some strategic facilities are located near them, for instance, the cosmodrome, the Amur Gas Processing Plant and Gas and Chemical Complex. The agglomeration will allow for the comprehensive development of social and service infrastructure there," the Governor noted.
The gas and chemical cluster located in the Amur region will occupy the second place in the world in terms of total capacity. The Amur Gas Processing Plant will produce ethane, propane and butane from natural gas, which will be processed at the Amur Gas and Chemical Complex. They will be used to produce polyethylene and polypropylene, which are in demand in Russia and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. But the main strategic product of the Amur Gas Processing Plant is helium, which is in demand in high-tech industries.
While presenting facts about the region, Vasily Orlov also noted that its unique border position determines its key vector of development -- a comprehensive cooperation with China.
"The Amur region should become Russia's gateway to China. And our team is working towards this goal step by step, project by project. Now, a unique tourist facility is under construction. It is the world's first cross-border cableway across the Amur River connecting Russia's Blagoveshchensk and China's Heihe. With the launch of this cross-border facility, the tourist flow to our region will increase many times. And we are getting ready to welcome our guests: construction of the first five-star hotel will start in Blagoveshchensk this year, and next year, the year-round "Amur Seasons" fair and other tourist attractions will open. The Amur region has accumulated a lot of knowledge and competencies while dealing with China. Chinese is taught in our kindergartens and schools, and Russian is taught in schools in Heihe. We have unique practices that we have developed with our neighbor, and today we are ready to actively share them with other regions, and help businesses in our two countries to cooperate effectively. We have an instruction from the President to establish a federal level Centre for Russian-Chinese Business Cooperation in Blagoveshchensk. It will include modern transport and tourism infrastructure," Vasily Orlov said.
At the end of the presentation, Vasily Orlov emphasized that the Amur region is not only the most promising region in the Far East, but also one of the best sites in the country for the young people's successful start and career growth.
Mikhail Kuznetsov, Director of the Federal Autonomous Scientific Institution "Eastern Centre for State Planning", emphasized the contribution of the Amur region to the development of the entire Far East.
