“Vivat, Bayan!”: the international contest of bayan players was presented at the RUSSIA EXPO
More than a
hundred participants of the contest - bayan, squeezebox and accordion players,
marched from the Stone Flower fountain to the Main Street Stage of the
Exposition and collectively performed the composition “Katyusha”. The
procession ended with a festive concert.
“The
contest ‘Vivat, Bayan!’ is one of the most titled in our country. Students of
art schools, music schools and higher educational institutions come to
participate in it. This is a very good start for further creative growth for a
musician of any level," said the orchestra director Alexei Maslov.
The
international contest “Vivat, Bayan!” is held annually in the Samara region.
The idea to hold it was conceived by the Russian musician, Merited Artist of
Russia Sergei Voitenko in 2002. For 21 years the best musicians of Russia and
the world have performed on the festival stage: William Sabatier, Nicolas
Massoutier, Claudio Iacomucci, Eric Bouvel and many others.
Alexei
Maslov, head of the orchestra, said that the bayan was created in Samara by
Pavel Chulkov. This famous bayanist, designer of musical instruments,
modernized the Russian squeezebox and made it chromatic - it began to play in
all thirty tonalities that exist in music.
“Russia is
the birthplace of the bayan. This is actually true. It was in our country that
our Great Russian bayan was created. The soul of the bayan is the soul of
Russia,” emphasized orchestra artist Ivan Firsanov.
The
competition annually gathers more than a hundred young musicians from all over
Russia and the world. It not only allows beginners to demonstrate their
talents, but also gives the best of them a real opportunity to reach the world
level. The contest “Vivat, Bayan!” is a qualifying stage for the world
competitions of bayanists and accordionists “World Trophy” and “World Cup”.
This year
the contest “Vivat, Bayan!” for the first time will be held in Moscow at the
RUSSIA EXPO from June 25 to 29. The venue will be Pavilion No. 55 “Home of
Youth”. The artistic director of the event will be Sergei Voitenko.
