Ulyanovsk region
The Ulyanovsk region is famous not only for the names of outstanding natives, but also for achievements in traditional and innovative industries, and unique tourist spots. At the region’s stand, you can “fly” over the city in the cockpit of the legendary Il-76 aircraft, control a river dry cargo ship on the Volga and charge your gadget from a wind generator. Students and schoolchildren will be able to control a drone, assemble a wind generator blade, and learn how nuclear physics is used in practice in a real industrial reactor.
The Ulyanovsk region is located in the very center of the Middle Volga region, in the southeast of the European part of Russia. Territory area is 37.2 thousand square kilometers. 1203.9 thousand people live here. The region was founded on January 19, 1943, its administrative center is Ulyanovsk. The historical name of the city is Simbirsk, which was established in the XVII century as an important fortification of the borders of Central Rus. Over its long history, it was part of many episodes in the history of the country and became the birthplace of a number of historical figures: from Ivan Goncharov to Vladimir Lenin.
The Ulyanovsk region is inextricably linked with the aircraft manufacturing. The country's industrial giant is located here - the branch of Il PJSC - Aviastar, where the Il-76MD-90A transport aircraft is produced. Ulyanovsk “AeroComposite” is the only enterprise in Russia producing power-bearing composite structures for aviation purposes; the “black wing” for the MS-21 airliner is manufactured here.
Natural and recreational resources, objects of national, world cultural and historical heritage are concentrated here: the Lenin Memorial, the open-air museum-reserve “Motherland of V.I. Lenin", Museum of the History of Civil Aviation, “Sengileev Mountains” National Park and “Undoria” Geopark. The widest part of the Volga River is located in the Ulyanovsk region, as well as two parallel bridges - Imperial and Presidential.
