Visionary architect James Law to speak on the philosophy of cybertecture at the II International Symposium "Inventing the Future" at the National Centre RUSSIA
As part of the II International Symposium "Inventing
the Future," which will take place on 7–8 October 2025 at the National
Centre RUSSIA, leading researchers and analysts from different countries will
discuss the shape of the cities of the future as well as the opportunities and
challenges of urbanisation. Among the experts will be visionary architect James
Law, who designs cyber homes in India and China. On the eve of the Symposium,
he shared his views on architectural trends and prospects for cooperation
between Russia and China.
James Law, who also took part in the first Symposium,
emphasises the exceptional value of this platform for exchanging ideas about
the future. According to him, the diversity of participants, including
representatives of science, design, technology and government, creates a space
where innovation is discussed comprehensively rather than in isolation.
Continuity is key to forming a holistic vision — which is why he will once
again take part in the Symposium.
In his speech, the architect will focus on the concept of
cybertecture, which combines futuristic forms, intelligent multimedia systems,
ecology and new engineering solutions. Analysing architectural trends, James
Law highlights as most significant for the future the use of digital design,
eco-friendly materials and the creation of smart infrastructure, while pointing
out the need to address such systemic issues as excessive urbanisation and
housing inequality.
"Rethinking our homes and cities through technology,
design and sustainability will shape the development of society. Cyber homes
are becoming increasingly interconnected, self-sufficient and adaptive thanks
to the integration of artificial intelligence, the use of renewable energy
sources and modular design. However, key challenges remain their affordability,
regulatory frameworks and public trust — difficulties that arise because
innovation often outpaces policy and new technologies are initially costly.
That is why it is essential to expand international cooperation on common
standards for the development of cyber homes, joint research and cross-border
pilot projects," said James Law.
The architect also stresses the strategic importance of the
Russia-China partnership. In his view, cooperation between the two countries
has already proved effective in major infrastructure projects, energy and
technology.
"The partnership between Russia and China is based on
shared long-term interests. Both countries should deepen cooperation in green
technologies, smart cities and digital infrastructure, as these areas have a
direct impact on the quality of life of future generations," James Law
believes.
According to the architect, global dialogue, support for
education and the implementation of sustainable practices enable humanity to
face challenges and reinforce positive trends. These issues will take centre
stage at the II International Symposium "Inventing the Future," which
will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 7 – 8 October 2025. The event,
organised on the instructions of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir
Putin under the Decade of Science and Technology in our country, will bring
together more than 7,000 participants from SCO and BRICS countries, the
Asia-Pacific region and Europe.
The expert programme of the Symposium is built around the
strategic task of shaping and visualising positive scenarios for the future. It
includes the tracks "Society", "Technology", and
"Global Cooperation" within which participants will engage in extensive
collaborative work at the intersection of science, technology, the humanities
and imagination. The outcomes of the Symposium will be futuristic forecasts
that can be tracked, discussed and refined.
The project aims to support specialists who create relevant content about the country’s achievements using neural networks.
One of the participants of the II International Symposium "Inventing the Future" will be Italian science fiction writer and multiple literary award winner Roberto Quaglia.
