Participants of the workshop at the National Centre RUSSIA became architects of future worlds
Participants
of the children's workshop "Supermassive Object" at the National
Centre RUSSIA created a large-scale model of the house of the future. The art
installation, with a diameter of over three meters, was adorned with
imaginative cities, and a child could fit inside. This unique creative event
took place on April 13 as part of the educational program of the exposition
"The Birth of Scale." It was conducted by instructors from the Future
Architecture School "SETKA," namely Irina Golovanova, Yegor Orlov,
and Sonya Gosteva.
Participants
of the workshop imagined who would inhabit a space the size of the entire
universe, how life should be organized inside a hyper-object that is constantly
expanding, and what a house of the future might look like if the distance from
one room to another were thousands of light-years.
"What
does 'very large' mean? Can an architect create a project whose dimensions
reach or even exceed those of the Universe? We decided to challenge the laws of
physics and create a house of infinite size. To create this supergiant, we used
a modular structure principle similar to LEGO. This allows us to assemble
complex forms from small parts," explained Yegor Orlov, an instructor at
the Future Architecture School "SETKA."
Under the
guidance of the instructors, the children learned the basics of creative design
in building large-scale models, explored the principles of architectural object
construction, and gained experience with scale and structure. The result of
their collective creative labor was a model of a superhouse, large enough to
fit an adult inside.
"I
really enjoyed the workshop; we made interesting three-dimensional
installations to later attach to a large shared planet, inside which even a
person could fit. The planet turned out to be very unusual, and the entire
process was also very captivating," shared workshop participant Olesya
Glinnik.
The
architectural exposition "The Birth of Scale" at the National Centre
RUSSIA conveys the greatness of Russia through its architectural heritage. The
displayed items include tools used by architects from different eras,
innovative models, unique blueprints, and building models. A separate section
presents the future of Russian architecture, showcasing works by young
architects, student workshops, and children's creative studios. The exposition
features items from both the National Centre RUSSIA's own collection and those
provided by museums and private collectors across the country.
Partners of
"The Birth of Scale" exposition include DOM.RF, the Ministry of
Construction of Russia, Gazprom, the State Scientific Research Museum of
Architecture named after A.V. Shchusev, the Russian State Archive of Literature
and Art, the Architectural Charity Fund named after Yakov Chernikhov, and the HSE
School of Design.
