Towers made of pasta: an architectural workshop was held at the National Centre RUSSIA
The workshop "Pasta Builder" took place on May 14
as part of the educational programme of "The Birth of Scale"
exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA. At the creative class, pasta became
the building material for creating unusual constructions.
The event was conducted by Anna Medleva, Senior Lecturer at
the School of Design of the Institute of Social Sciences of the Academy under
the President of the Russian Federation, member of the Union of Architects of
the Russian Federation, member of the Union of Designers of the Russian
Federation, curator of international cultural projects, and visionary, together
with students of RANEPA.
Young participants together with teachers created incredible futuristic towers from pasta in the style of Soviet architect Yakov Chernikhov, expanded their knowledge in construction, and learned to find the most unexpected solutions.
"The essence of this workshop is that children assemble architectural objects from pasta of various thicknesses. You can make absolutely anything. It is a very promising material, and with the right technique, it gives an opportunity to build a very stable structure that will be difficult to break," Anna Medleva explained.
The teacher emphasised that this practical activity is aimed at developing children's imagination and fine motor skills, teaching them to think unconventionally.
"Together with students of the RANEPA School of Design we developed sketches and let the children choose the tower they wanted to make. We explained what a module is. We connected the pasta with sculptural clay and threads. If the children could not manage something, we helped them," noted Alisa Terzibashyan, first-year student of the Faculty of Modern Design at RANEPA.
Alyona Lebezhikina and her son Timofei have been attending
every workshop at the National Centre RUSSIA since the end of March.
"I keep track of the event schedule on the official website and register. We come here after school lessons. Today I liked how the students worked and interacted with the children — they are very engaged, and they have impressive spatial thinking," Alyona Lebezhikina shared.
Participation in such workshops is free of charge. To do so, it is necessary to register on the website russia.ru in the "Events" section.
