"A role model, open and resilient": young journalists at the National Centre RUSSIA reflect on meeting Yekaterina Andreyeva
A master-meeting with the long-time host of the "Vremya" news programme, Yekaterina Andreyeva, at the National Centre RUSSIA left a lasting impression on participants of the Young Journalists School. The students saw in her not only a star of national television, but also a person of remarkable character, unwavering principles and exceptional inner strength.
For 14-year-old Alyona Zak, Yekaterina Andreyeva has long been a role model. Aspiring to become a journalist herself, Alyona said the meeting with her idol gave her much more than memorable emotions.
"It was a very informative meeting, and I took away many valuable insights. Yekaterina is a role model and a kind of idol for me. What interested me most was learning about her life experience. I am eager to learn how female journalists build their careers because I plan to become a journalist. I was especially impressed by Yekaterina's resilience and her ability to listen to and understand people," Alyona shared.
Maria Dolgusheva admitted that she watches "Vremya" every evening and is inspired by the way the presenter carries herself on screen. However, meeting her in person revealed a completely different Yekaterina Andreyeva — one free from the sternness and formality with which the television host conducts herself on air.
"I really enjoyed the meeting because, for me, Yekaterina Andreyeva is someone to look up to. I was delighted to meet her and discovered that she is a very warm and genuine person. There are many myths that she is strict, but that strictness belongs only to her on-air persona. In real life, she turned out to be very open," Maria said.
Karina Kuznetsova left the event with a practical piece of advice she intends to follow: stay active and play sport. She described this recommendation as the most valuable takeaway from the discussion.
"The meeting was incredibly productive, and I noted down many new ideas and reflections. For example, Yekaterina spoke a great deal about the importance of sport because a healthy body supports a healthy mind. I believe these are very wise words and I intend to follow them. Sport builds inner strength, helps you manage your emotions in unexpected situations and maintain self-control. In our profession, that is extremely important," Karina explained.
The "Young Journalists School" project is organised by the National Centre RUSSIA and the Movement of the First with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Participants gain a solid understanding of the Russian language and the power of words, the fundamentals of journalism, its genres, ethics and legal standards, while also learning how leading Russian media outlets operate. The programme places a strong emphasis on practical experience: under the guidance of mentors, students create multimedia content and test it across a variety of platforms.
The "StudAptatsiYA"("Student Adaptation") game was held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 7 June as part of the II Video Essay Contest "Dreams of the Future".
The participants discussed how content plans work in new media, which formats help retain an audience and how platform algorithms operate.
