The date that changed history: 12 years since the reunification of Crimea with Russia
"The
Crimean Spring" and 18 March are dates that have become part of our
country’s modern history. In 2026, it marks 12 years since the reunification of
Crimea and Sevastopol with Russia. It was on this day in 2014 that an agreement
on the admission of the peninsula into the Russian Federation was signed in St
George’s Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace.
The
decision was preceded by a referendum held on 16 March, in which an
overwhelming majority of residents of Crimea and Sevastopol voted for
reunification with their historical homeland. As a result, two new federal
subjects appeared in Russia — the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of
Sevastopol.
In Moscow,
the vibrant festival "The Crimean Spring" traditionally takes place
on these days, transforming the capital into a true extension of the sunny
peninsula. From 14 to 19 March, the city centre will be filled with the scent
of lavender and freshly cooked chebureki, folk songs will be performed on
open-air stages, masterclass participants will explore the culture of Crimea in
greater depth, mobile retail points will offer goods for which the Crimean land
is renowned, and photographic works capturing the beauty of the peninsula will
be displayed on Tverskoy Boulevard and at VDNH.
However, it
is possible to immerse oneself in the atmosphere, traditions, and crafts of
Crimea not only during the festival. The National Centre RUSSIA preserves and
presents the cultural legacy of all regions of the country, and Crimea holds a
special place here. Vivid stories about the peninsula’s landmarks await
visitors at the permanent exposition "Journey Across Russia",
products by Crimean artisans and producers — from fragrant cosmetics to
decorative items — are presented in the Department Store, and the Gastronomic
Rows invite guests to appreciate the region’s distinctive flavours.
The Day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia is an important reminder that the peoples of our country are united, and that Russian culture is beautiful in all its multinational diversity. This can be felt through the ongoing live dialogue with the regions that the National Centre RUSSIA continuously maintains.
At the National Centre RUSSIA in Yugra, the exposition "Soulful Defence Industry" has opened as part of the 5th Forum "Patriots of the Urals".

The Movement of the First, Yunarmiya (Young Army), the State Foundation "Defenders of the Fatherland", and the VOIN (Warrior) Centre jointly launched the second season of the All-Russian game "Family Zarnitsa" on 17 March.
