"In the Footsteps of Victory": quiz on heroes, geography and wartime chronicles held at the National Centre RUSSIA
Where did the main battles of the Great Patriotic War take
place, which photojournalist took the most recognisable shot in wartime
chronicles, and what medical invention from those years do we still use today?
Participants in the quiz "In the Footsteps of Victory" at the
National Centre RUSSIA searched for answers to these and other questions. The
intellectual contest was held in the "Geography Classroom" at the
"Geography Lessons" exposition and brought together those ready not only
to listen to lectures, but also to share their knowledge and work as a team.
The quiz, timed to coincide with the 81st anniversary of the
Great Victory, consisted of five thematic rounds. In the first round,
"Heroes and Victors", participants recalled not only marshals and
generals. The questions focused on rank-and-file soldiers, doctors, partisans
and even schoolchildren — those who risked their lives to liberate their native
land. The second round, "Geography of Victory", was dedicated to hero
cities, strategic directions and the very frontiers where the country’s future
was decided during the difficult war years.
In the third round, "Frames through the Years",
participants saw wartime chronicles and photographs that became symbols of the
era. The questions concerned the authors of these images and the stories behind
their creation. The fourth round, "Culture on the Line of Fire",
reminded participants that the war was reflected not only in official reports,
but also in folk art and works of art: songs, poems, films and posters. The
final fifth round, "The Science of Victory", invited participants to
think about technologies born on the front line: they learned which inventions
from those years changed the course of military thought forever and still serve
humanity today.
The contest was hosted by Natalia Zharinova, Head of the
Press Service of the All-Russian Public Movement to Perpetuate the Memory of
Those Killed Defending the Fatherland "Search Movement of Russia",
the Press Service of the Federal Project "Without a Statute of
Limitations" and the School of Search Journalism, and lecturer of the
Russian society Znanie.
Following the quiz, members of the five teams that scored
the highest number of points received memorable gifts from the National Centre
RUSSIA. But perhaps everyone received the main prize: precise, informal and,
most importantly, deeply personal knowledge of the price paid for the Great
Victory.
"The quiz questions conceal not only facts and dates,
but also the destinies of millions of people who defended the freedom and
independence of the Motherland for future generations," Natalia Zharinova
emphasised as she concluded the meeting.
The quiz "In the Footsteps of Victory" continued
the cycle of original events by the National Centre RUSSIA dedicated to the 81st
anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and united participants
around its key pages of history. Visitors can join commemorative campaigns and
other festive events at the National Centre RUSSIA free of charge. The current
schedule is available on russia.ru in the "Events" section.
