Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation to be celebrated at the National Centre RUSSIA

For the first time, the Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation will be celebrated on 8 September, the birthday of poet Rasul Gamzatov. In the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, the central event dedicated to the new commemorative date will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA. This was announced by Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Yelena Yampolskaya.

"In less than a month, on 8 September, the birthday of Rasul Gamzatov, our country will for the first time celebrate the Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation under a Presidential Decree. It is symbolic that this will take place in the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. The main celebration is planned at the National Centre RUSSIA. The organiser is the Russian society Znanie," Yelena Yampolskaya said.

She also noted that she plans to take part in the event personally and expressed hope that the new commemorative date would become widely observed across all regions of the country.

The establishment of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation highlights the great importance of all languages spoken across the country, including both state languages and local vernaculars and dialects. The birthday of renowned poet Rasul Gamzatov was also chosen for a reason: he wrote his poetry in both Russian and Avar, his native language. This approach to his work symbolises the unity of different cultures and the importance of interethnic communication.

In the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, the National Centre RUSSIA has launched a series of themed events. The programme began with the "Russia — a Family of Families" educational marathon organised by the Russian society Znanie, which brought together more than 4,000 people — representatives of over 190 peoples of the Russian Federation, as well as international guests.

The National Centre RUSSIA also hosted the premiere of the musical and choreographic parable "Khorovod", dedicated to one of the country's most important cultural symbols. Through dance and music — universal languages that need no translation — audiences were introduced to the richness of the cultures of the peoples of Russia.

The key thematic project was the All-Russian survey "What Does the Motherland Begin With?", which attracted thousands of children and adults. Anyone can take part in the project by submitting a video, text or photograph with their own story.
