The large-scale New Year multi-genre performance "Morozko" at the National Centre RUSSIA combines a classic fairytale with modern technology. One of the memorable roles there — that of Kot-Bayun (the Lullaby Cat) — is performed by the actor of the Vakhtangov Theatre and the Theatre of Nations, Dmitry Solomykin. He noted that working on the performance became an opportunity for him to personally participate in passing on the fairytale tradition to the younger generation.

"My human and professional mission as a representative of Russian classical theatre is to bring children smiles and joy. And that is perhaps the most important thing I share with the audience as myself, as a human person, and as the character. These are the 'analogue' Russian fairytales I grew up with myself and which I want to convey to those children who are now five, six, seven, eight, and nine years old. This is the continuity of generations, and we become the keepers of that very 'paper' tradition, which is so important today," said Dmitry Solomykin.

The actor places special significance on the performance's format, where a folklore foundation harmoniously combines with modern technology.

"I think all technological innovations, all modern formats for presenting information used today are good. After all, the world does not stand still; technological progress is also moving forward in leaps and bounds. All of this can be used in a positive way, be it multi-genre elements, laser shows, or something else. Everything that is in our performance works to its advantage," added the actor.

The plot of the performance "Morozko" is built around a modern family that has lost the joy of live interaction, having become immersed in work and smartphones. The youngest daughter, Nastenka, in an attempt to bring back the warmth that is gone, makes a wish and unexpectedly finds herself in a fairytale. There, Morozko becomes her guide and mentor, while her family sets off to search for her. They must bring her home before the magic portal closes. Each family member goes through a trial to bring back not only Nastenka, but themselves as well, and along the way, the former family unity.

The idea of "Morozko" belongs to the Bolshoi Theatre premier soloist Igor Tsvirko, who proposed staging a New Year performance at the National Centre RUSSIA. The main feature of the production is its multi-genre nature: it successfully combines ballet, opera, folk, and artistic choreography.

The performance "Morozko" will be shown on the stage of the National Centre RUSSIA from 6 to 11 January. The final performance will take place on 14 January. You can register for the event on the official website Russia.ru in the "Events" section.
