The project Road to the Russian North turns the federal highway M-8 into a real tourist route, which shows travelers that the journey between Velsk and Arkhangelsk itself can become an immersion into the history of the Russian North.
Oksana Svetlova, Minister of Culture of the Arkhangelsk region, spoke in detail about this interesting tourist route to the visitors of the International RUSSIA EXPO.
Today the route includes Velsky district, Vinogradovsky and Kholmogorsky districts, Primorsky district and Arkhangelsk, where guests of Pomorye can enjoy the beauty of meadows and rivers, ride a Russian troika, taste traditional dishes, learn the basics of bone carving in the birthplace of the famous scientist Mikhail Lomonosov and experience the healing power of White Sea seaweed.
Tourists with cars can also get acquainted with the karst caves of Pinezhye, architectural ensembles of Kargopol and Solvychegodsk, unique monuments of wooden architecture in Kenozersky National Park. At the same time, the project is designed not only to preserve and support original tourist attractions, but also to help develop roadside infrastructure so that tourists could travel comfortably and safely through Pomorye.
The team of the Ministry of Culture of the Arkhangelsk region and the regional Center for Tourism and Culture Development continues to develop the project.
"We will develop this route so that it leads not only to Arkhangelsk, but also to Onega and Pinega. Other regions are also planning to join the project: Vologda, Leningrad, Moscow and Yaroslavl regions," Oksana Svetlova explained.
