Unity of tradition and future: what the symbol of the National Centre RUSSIA in Ryazan represents
Each letter in the name of the National Centre RUSSIA carries its own symbolic meaning. The letter "O" in the names of its regional branches in Russian reflects the unique values of each region. A unique feature will be held by the space set to open this summer in the capital of the Ryazan Region. The symbol of the National Centre RUSSIA in Ryazan will be the griffin-phoenix — a mythical creature combining the imagery of two legendary beings.
The prototype for the griffin-phoenix is one of the supporters on the coat of arms of Ryazan. In ancient Russian tradition, the griffin symbolises the union of the strength of earth and sky, the protection of borders and military valour. For the Ryazan land, which for centuries stood as a frontier territory, this image is particularly significant. The phoenix, rising from the ashes, represents renewal in mythology. Ryazan has been destroyed many times, yet each time it has been reborn, preserving its strength and identity.
The fusion of these two mythical creatures creates a new symbolic image that harmoniously combines tradition and development, strength and intellect, historical heritage and an orientation towards the future. This symbolism directly reflects the mission of the National Centre RUSSIA — to become a point of attraction for all those who are ready to develop their small motherland and the country as a whole, take pride in its history and achievements, and build the future together.
The Ryazan branch will be located within walking distance of the Ryazan Kremlin and the local VDNH. Visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA in Ryazan will be welcomed by an interactive exposition showcasing the historical, cultural, scientific and industrial heritage of the region; a Department Store of Russian brands, and spaces for business, educational and cultural events.
Regional branches of the National Centre RUSSIA are being established in accordance with an instruction of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. In 2026, in addition to the Ryazan Region, a branch in the hero city of Sevastopol will welcome its first visitors. In March, project proposals for branches in eight additional regions of the Russian Federation were presented and approved at the National Centre RUSSIA in Moscow, with implementation timelines agreed at various stages.
