Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that the development of the Far East is a national priority for the entire XXI century.

On November 15, the Days of the Regions of the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) were held at the International RUSSIA EXPO. Each subject presented its achievements and development results of recent years, as well as key projects and plans for the future.

Experts note that the presentations of the Far Eastern regions confirm the thesis of the head of state about the priority of the FEFD development, while the comprehensive federal strategy for the development of the Far Eastern macro-region is built on several bases: spatial development, social support, stimulation of economic activity.

"The Far East is a special macro-region that requires constant attention from the federal center due to its special role as an outpost in the East. State instruments for the development of the FEFD have traditionally been based on the principle of human-centered approach. This principle is based on improving the quality of life. After the creation of affordable housing and comfortable urban environment programs, large federal developers have come to the FEFD, and the Far Eastern Mortgage program is working. The second vector is transport accessibility; the President has issued many orders in this regard over the past 5 years, including the latest instructions following the Eastern Economic Forum — airports and airfields must be restored to proper conditions and the transport infrastructure must be modernized. As part of the economic development of the macro-region, technological progress has been given a boost. It is planned to implement additional measures to support the technological development of the Far East by channeling a part of the funds received from the subsoil use taxes", — political consultant Vladimir Lubyanko emphasized the principles of state policy with regard to the FEFD.

"The exposition is becoming a milestone project for the whole country. The very format of the exposition, as it seems to me, is unique for a number of reasons. The keynote is pride, and RUSSIA EXPO reflects this emotion in the most interactive way possible — when you see everything that is happening today in the regions, you realize what path our country has traveled in a few decades. Another feature — accessibility, everything is organized in such a way that the exposition can be visited by absolutely anyone and absolutely free of charge. The exposition is Russia in miniature, you can see the whole country. The second emphasis, besides pride, is development. Development as a consequence of, among other things, the government’s policy towards the Far East. No other macro-region has such a comprehensive approach, which reflects the President’s position on the strategic importance of the Far East. The concept of the stands of the Far Eastern Federal District regions, as it seemed to me, is based on three components: cultural diversity, natural uniqueness and economic development, which corresponds to the results of the federal development instruments", — said Daria Kislitsyna, Director of the Department of Regional Programs at EISR, Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Territorial Development, Urban Environment and Infrastructure of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

The expert also emphasized the significance of solutions to create new standards of quality of life and unique energy projects in the FEFD.

"The master plans of Yakutsk, Neryungri, Anadyr, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Krasnokamensk are supported by the President. Unique technological projects are being implemented in the regions: Russia’s first land-based low-capacity nuclear power plant in Yakutia, a floating nuclear thermal power plant in Chukotka, which is unique by world standards. A gas chemical complex will be launched in the Amur region, and a unique liquefied natural gas production facility is being developed in Sakhalin. Progress and pride in achievements — this is what the Days of the Far Eastern Regions have left in my memory", — said Daria Kislitsyna.

Anna Otke, Russian Senator from the Chukotka Autonomous Area, noted the wide range of projects presented by the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, many of which were previously considered almost impossible.

"The exposition of the Chukotka Autonomous Area combines history and traditions with modern, ambitious industrial investment projects, with an emphasis on pioneering energy projects. At the Regional Day of the Chukotka Autonomous Region a presentation of the Primorye region also took place. The Far East and the Arctic are regions with intensive subsoil use. And Primorye presented new prospects for the development of digital technologies. Considering the high level of development in this area in neighboring countries, this is a serious statement. Yakutia has combined the ancient Olonkho epic with the republic’s limitless opportunities in the economy. It is amazing that in our neighboring region the once unrealistic idea of a working railroad has become possible. Transportation for the Far East and the Arctic, along with energy, is one of the most vital areas of development", — said Anna Otke.

Experts concluded that the Days of the Far Eastern regions set a certain trend toward highlighting specific development results and achievements, which will obviously be continued during presentations by other federal districts.

Earlier on November 9, 2023, the Head of State signed a list of instructions based on the results of the Eastern Economic Forum. The list includes 30 clauses, the implementation of which will make it possible to continue the course of development of the Far Eastern Federal District. Among the instructions are: a comprehensive action plan for the development of air transportation, supply of domestic aircraft and helicopters for small and regional aviation, development of tourist infrastructure, continuation of the 1000 Yards improvement program, expansion of the Far Eastern Mortgage program, approval of the program for the development of the electric power industry in the Far Eastern Federal District, and much more.
