New Year tree of the Ivanovo region: Shuya chintz, Palekh and accordion
The
Ivanovo region has many kinds of traditional folk arts and crafts: lacquer
miniatures, artistic painting, stitch embroidery, weaving, fabric knotting,
pottery, and vine weaving.
Some
of them are represented on the New Year tree in a stylized way. Ivanovo is
called the chintz capital of Russia. Imitation of traditional Shuya chintz
became the focus of the New Year decor.
There
was also a place for stylized images of fairy-tale scenes of Palekh and Kholui
lacquer miniatures, which originate in the traditions of icon painting. A
bright accent was the Shuya accordion - harmonicas, accordions and button
accordions are produced in the town of Shuya, Ivanovo region.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by 89 New Year trees, each of them representing a region of the country.
