Christmas tree of the Kaliningrad region - everything is made of amber!
Balls,
snowflakes, mittens, bells - almost all the decorations of the Christmas tree
of the westernmost region of Russia are covered with amber. The decorations
were made specially for the country's main exposition by craftsmen from
Kaliningrad.
A luxurious
Christmas tree with the same decorations will also stand this year on the new
stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.
The small
village Yantarny near Kaliningrad is home to 90% of the world's amber
production. Until 1947, the village was called Palmniken, which means
"wasteland, treeless swamp" in Prussian.
It is here
that the largest deposit of amber in the world is located. About 500 tons of
this stone are mined per year.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by 89 Christmas trees, each of them representing a region of the country with its folk arts and crafts and traditions. And the 90th blue spruce symbolizes the RUSSIA EXPO itself. The trees came from the Moscow region, where they have been carefully cultivated for many years. After the exposition, the spruces will be planted near VDNH.
The International RUSSIA EXPO is the most important achievements of the country gathered in one place. During the whole period of the Exposition, guests are welcomed with cultural and entertainment events, a rich business and educational program. The expositions of 89 Russian regions, leading federal departments, corporations and public organizations are presented to the visitors.
