Christmas tree of the Moscow region: legends of the olden days and imperial porcelain
The Moscow region is very rich in artistic crafts. And most of them found their place in the New Year decoration of the Christmas tree: well-known blue-and-white products of Gzhel, colorful Zhostovo trays, carved bears of Bogorod carving.
The history of Bogorod wooden toys goes back more than 350 years. Legend associates the craft with Sergiev Posad, located 27 kilometers away, which was called "the capital of the toy kingdom". According to legend, Sergius of Radonezh carved toys out of wood and gave them to children, and the monastery peasants fulfilled large orders for carved woodwork.
Masters of Fedoskino Miniature painted large caskets in the traditional style of Fedoskino landscapes and scenes especially for the project.
The porcelain of the famous factory in Verbilki also found its place. The factory Gardner Manufactory in Verbilki was founded in 1754 by an Englishman Franz Gardner. It was decided to establish production in Dmitrov district.
Thanks to the magnificent sculptures and luxurious porcelain, which became the decoration of the richest houses in Russia and Europe, the small village of Verbilki, Moscow province, became famous far beyond the borders of the Russian Empire. In 1856, Gardner’s factory in Verbilki received the most honorable title at that time — "Supplier to the Court of His Imperial Majesty".
