New Year tree of the Nenets Area: real reindeer moss, cloudberries and tambourines with ancestral spirits
Boundless
tundra, deep lakes, unique species of wild animals - the nature of the Nenets
Area is incredibly rich. The Nenets people live in amazing harmony with the
surrounding nature and call themselves "nenei nenech", which means
"real people".
Nowadays the economy of the region is based on oil and gas extraction. However, the indigenous people have been successfully developing fishing and reindeer herding for hundreds of years.
The whole life of the indigenous people of the
region is in one way or another connected with reindeer. Reindeer provide food,
shelter, clothing and household items.
Reindeer moss, the basis of the reindeer's diet, became the main highlight of the region's New Year tree at VDNH. Decorators made New Year balls filled with real reindeer moss, cloudberry. The decor of the New Year tree also reflects the beliefs of the indigenous people - a scaled-down copy of a tambourine was placed in the branches of the fir tree.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by 89 New Year trees, each of them representing a region of the country.
The performance took place as part of the international Open Dialogue "The Future of the World. New Platform for Global Growth."
One of the tracks of the Open Dialogue is "Investments in Human Capital." The pitch session on this topic brought together over 30 speakers.
One of the key topics for discussion within the initiative became "Investments in Connectivity," which attracted 24% of the essay authors about the future of the world.
