"If there had been such SHUM 10 years ago, I would have immediately joined in" – TV presenter Yana Churikova
The SHUM Youth Media Development Centre has become that very centre of attraction that was so lacking in the media space. Yana Churikova, famous TV presenter and journalist, stated this in a conversation with the press office of the National Centre RUSSIA. She presented awards to the winners in the category "Family Values" of the National Youth Media and Journalism Award SHUM.
"I love SHUM (noise in Russian) in every sense of the word, " said Yana Churikova. “Perhaps, today it will be difficult to even imagine that in the late 90s and early noughties, people in the journalistic community were divided apart, so everyone worked on their own. I have always strived to create a real professional community, and it is SHUM that has become the centre of attraction. It unites people around common values, provides opportunities for professional growth, and helps immediately put skills into practice."
The TV presenter emphasized the project's practical value for young colleagues: "If there had been such SHUM 10 years ago — as a young journalist, I would have immediately joined in with it. And I'm glad that today my colleagues have an opportunity to participate in this great activity.
Besides, Yana Churikova appreciated the role of the National Centre RUSSIA in the development of professional communities and mutual understanding between people.
"The National Centre RUSSIA is not merely a showcase of the country. It is a place where people from different regions can comfortably communicate and share experiences. The task for which it was established is being fully completed. And over time, I started coming here not to work, but as a visitor. In particular, a conference on fakes will be held here soon. And since this is part of my professional competence, I want to be informed, too. So I have registered and I will be happy to come. As you see, everything is not in vain, everything has turned out well, and it's very cool," she concluded.
The business programme and award ceremony to honor the winners and prize-winners of the National Youth Media and Journalism Award SHUM brought together more than 800 young media specialists, bloggers, journalists, industry leaders, and Award ambassadors from different parts of the country. The event was hosted by the National Centre RUSSIA. The award is held by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) and the Government of the Kaliningrad region. It is one of the flagship projects of the year-round Youth Educational Centre SHUM of Rosmolodezh.
