Geographer Yaroslav Lebedev to speak at the National Centre RUSSIA on the link between climate, geography, and the future
A speaker of the Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future: Geography" at the National Centre RUSSIA, geographer and
geoecologist, Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Ecology of RUDN University,
Yaroslav Lebedev recorded a special video address for future participants of
the event, in which he announced the topic of his talk and warned about a
global climate transformation. The Lecture Hall is timed to coincide with the
opening of the "Geography Lessons" exposition at the National Centre
RUSSIA and will become a meeting point for those ready not only to study the
world map but also to reshape it.
"In my talk, I will discuss the projected consequences
of global climate transformation and ways not necessarily to prevent it, but
certainly to be prepared for what lies ahead. I invite you to take part in the
lecture hall — it will be engaging. See you soon," said Yaroslav Lebedev,
geographer, geochemist and geoecologist, Senior Lecturer at the Department of
Environmental Management of the Institute of Ecology of RUDN University.
The Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future" is an
original project of the National Centre RUSSIA, which premiered on 7 February
2026. The first Lecture Hall, "Inventing the Future: Plots and
Stories", focused on storytelling — the art of telling stories in
advertising, cinema, and video games. Scientists, futurists, and experts from
different countries discussed how storytelling is becoming a tool for
education, marketing, and entertainment in the modern world.
The Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future:
Geography" will take place at the National Centre RUSSIA on 11 April.
Russian and international experts will demonstrate that the world map is not a
static image but a living system that is changing before our eyes, and together
with the audience will attempt to create a collective vision of the future
through geography, technology, and personal experience. The discussions will
centre on three themes — "Geography of Travel", "Geography of
Hidden Worlds", and "Climate and the Geography of Resources" —
each of which promises to reshape the conventional understanding of maps,
travel, and the discipline of geography itself.
Admission to the event is free with prior registration on
the website russia.ru. Follow updates in the "Events" section.
